Our local park opened again after the January floods about 2 weeks ago. We have been stopping there after school drop off or after school pick up nearly every day. It is so great that it is open again. The girls really enjoy the flying fox and spiders web. I like that they are having fun and being active.
So many parks are still closed including some of our favourites but I am very thankful that "our" park is open again.
Do you have a park that you call your own? What do you enjoy most about it?
- our life with four beautiful daughters and how we deal with the challenges of one of them being a toddler with Neonatal Diabetes.

The need for insulin.
Lately the have been lots of reasons that PWD (people with diabetes) need extra help. Flood, earthquakes and tornadoes have played havoc with peoples lives. Possessions have been taken away from them and their day to day life has been put on hold.
The thing is that PWD have special needs when it comes to food and their medication. They can't not eat and they can't miss their insulin.
When communications are down, power out and supplies low it make life for PWD. People with other disease have their own challenges as well but since DD#4 Miss F was diagnosed any natural disaster makes me think of those PWD that are in the midst of it all.
The most recent of these are the tornadoes in the US. I just read this article Alabama PWDs Need Your Help over at Six until Me which outlines the needs of PWD and how other can help. Send supplies if you are able to the Huntsville JDRF office.
An organisation the helps out PWD that don't have access to diabetes supplies in normal circumstances as well as during disasters is Insulin for Life Australia and the Insulin for Life USA.

Worried about Yasi
I have been thinking about North Queensland and the cyclone that is tearing through their towns.
The floods were distructive but in a totally different way.As I have been going about my normal day I have been thinking about those preparing for the cyclone and feeling guilty. I have been feeling guilty that I am not affected. Even after seeing the devastation brought by the flood waters and being brought to tears I am having trouble contemplating what is happening.
One of the things I am thinking about as well is all the people with diabetes and knowing how extra prepared they need to be in a situation like this.
I can only pray for the safety of those in the midst of the storm.

Turns out I wasn't as ready as I thought
I managed to get C & D off to school on the first day relatively well. Photos were taken. No tears were shed.
But the rest of the day wasn't so smooth. E wanted to buy ham after dropped off dad at the train station. I wasn't planning a shopping trip but off we went. That went fine. I just strapped them both in the tolley and they can't get into too much trouble. It actually was good to buy a few things to add to our flood-emptied fridge.
But the big problem came from my one planned activity to occupy E. I thought making cupcakes would be a hit. It turned out she was too busy with TV to help at any steps other than making the icing and getting them out of the oven. Making the icing went fine. But she touched the pan on the way out of the oven. Such a bad mum. I totally forgot that she hasn't had the don't touch drummed into her quite as much as the older girls who usually help. Ouch. So much crying. She eventually cried herself to sleep after demanding a bandaid and an icepack. I know either of those things would help a burn (both would make it worse probably) but she was inconsolable.
But the cupcakes were yummy.

Hello again.
Well don't really know where to begin. So much has happened. We have had a lovely holiday at Caloundra (Sunshine Coast).
We came back to a very wet Brisbane, that only got wetter. There has been major flooding to our suburb and allow we weren't directly affected it has been a stressful time watching and waiting to see where the water would stop.
As we were away for more than I week we need to use tablets for F. These were crushed and added to food, usually apple puree which she loves. Thankfully we were given more tablets than we actually needed. This meant we actually had enough medication to cover the time we couldn't get to the hospital because of flooding. Even if we could have got there the fact her medication needs to kept cold would have been had with no electricity for 4 days.
F was also sick in the last week, just a cold, but her BGLs were only slightly higher. Yay.
